Stylish city shopping

From the colonial splendour of the Queen Victoria Building to the finery of The Strand Arcade, the city centre is a shopping delight. In bustling Pitt Street Mall are boutiques, department stores, arcades and Westfield Sydney, a gleaming complex of over 250 fashion, food and lifestyle stores.

Built in the 1890s and beautifully restored in the 1980s, the Queen Victoria Building’s three levels are devoted to fashion, jewellery and gifts as well as cafes and restaurants. You can even enjoy traditional morning or afternoon tea in The Tea Room QVB, which has Baccarat crystal chandeliers.

Strand Arcarde, Sydney

This grand building with marvellous clocks is also called the QVB and is near Town Hall Station and a short walk from the Pitt Street Mall. Across the road from the QVB, on the corners of George, Park and Pitt streets, is The Galeries, where fashion, food, books and technology meet over several floors.

South is World Square and Market City, near Chinatown. The city is home to many international brands and Australian names, such as RM Williams on George Street, opposite The Dymocks Building and The Strand Arcade. Both Dymocks and The Strand contain bespoke designers and jewellers.

Browse the flagship department stores David Jones and Myer, too. More stylish boutiques are in Martin Place, Castlereagh Street, Elizabeth Street, and Market Street near Hyde Park, a delightful place to rest your feet. On the weekend, explore the vibrant Rocks Markets in the historic Rocks.
