Adventure on the Water

Highlights

Try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding, a popular and fast-growing water sport. It's a great way to see Sydney Harbour, one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world. You can take lessons or hire a stand-up paddle board at Rose Bay's Oz Stand Up Paddle and Manly Kayak Centre or from Mosman and Watsons Bay with Sydney Scenic SUP.

Fun on the water

The waters of Sydney are filled with opportunities for fun and adventure year-round. Try kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, learn to surf at the iconic Bondi Beach, or take a leisurely dip in other Sydney beaches and outdoor pools.

For boating and sailing, join the crew at Darling Harbour’s Sailing Sydney and experience the wind in the sails of an America’s Cup yacht. Or hire a skipper and a yacht from EastSail, Rushcutters Bay, and explore the harbour at a more leisurely pace. And you'll find plenty of charter boats available in Sydney.

Kayaking, Palm Beach

To explore the harbour at a slower pace, rent a single or double kayak by the hour or by the day, or take a guided tour. With Sydney Harbour Kayaks at Spit Bridge, Mosman, paddle around Middle Harbour, past cliffs and stunning homes built on impressive inclines close to relatively untouched bushland. Your guide will regale you with the harbour’s military history, shipwrecks, colourful rock formations and notable characters.

On the lower north shore Natural Wanders, at Milsons Point, offers the Billy Blue Paddle for beginners, a 5.5 km trip from Lavender Bay to Blues Point - an excellent location for a photo opportunity or simply to take in the views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.

Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve, Manly

The clarity of the water in the harbour and the ocean makes it perfect for diving and snorkelling throughout the year. To learn more about snorkelling or to investigate going deep to explore wrecks, there’s plenty of information at Dive Centre Manly.

Surfing is ingrained in Sydney’s beach lifestyle. The first world surfing championship was held at Manly Beach in 1964. If you want to learn to surf or improve your skills, surfing lessons are available for all ages at iconic Sydney beaches including Bondi, Manly, Maroubra and Cronulla.
