About Camden

From intriguing heritage to delicious delights, historic Camden is a charming rural town less than an hour’s drive from central Sydney. You’ll discover great agricultural pioneers, convict-built Belgenny Farm, wisteria walks, cellar doors and outdoor adventures, including mountain biking and gliding.

Belgenny Farm on Camden Park Estate was established in 1805 by John and Elizabeth Macarthur, pioneers in wool, wheat, dairy and wine. Both are open to the public and there are walking tours of Australia’s oldest set of intact farm buildings. The colonial garden on the estate is beautiful.

Camden Museum

Camden Park House was completed in 1835, a year after John Macarthur died. The Palladian-style mansion is only open to the public on one weekend a year in September. You can explore the district’s colonial and Aboriginal heritage at the Camden Museum, inside the Camden Library.

You’ll find many more things to do and see, from heritage rose gardens and wisteria walks in pretty Macarthur Park to mountain biking on more than 20km of tracks in the nearby Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan, the nation’s biggest botanic garden. Or play golf at the Camden Golf Club.

Camden Town Farm

A great way to savour the local produce is to visit cellar doors such as Cobbitty Winery and browse the bustling Camden Fresh Produce Market, held every Saturday in a picturesque rural setting. You’ll find a delicious range of farmers’ produce and gourmet treats at the market, operating since 2001.

The fun events calendar includes the Camden Show, a traditional country show in autumn with plenty of entertainment for the young and young at heart. Camden Town Farm, a working farm, hosts the annual Taste – Food, Wine and Music Festival in September as part of the Camden Festival.
