About Coogee

Coogee is one of Sydney’s oldest beachside suburbs and has the last remaining women’s and children’s ocean bath in Australia. A buzzing cafe, bar and restaurant scene makes Coogee a popular destination for delicious food and spectacular ocean views.

Beach culture is at the heart of this suburb and the patrolled beach makes for great swimming under the supervision of surf lifesavers. For a relaxing swim in calming waters, Coogee also has two ocean baths; Wylie’s Baths, just a few hundred metres south of Coogee beach, and McIvers Baths, the last remaining women's and children's ocean bath in Australia, perched on the headland between Coogee Beach and Wylie’s Baths.

Besides paddling in Coogee’s sparkling waters or relaxing on its soft sands, Coogee is also where you can start, or finish, the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk. This 6km picturesque pathway winds along the headlands of Sydney’s eastern shore, from Bondi Beach, through to pretty Bronte and Clovelly beaches and on to Gordon’s Bay. The path then leads over the headland and on to Coogee Beach, with glittering sea views. It’s a beautiful scenic walk that lends itself to a picnic or a long lunch at the end; perhaps a lobster roll from the Coogee Pavilion or a pint at the Coogee Bay Hotel.

To the east is the Pacific Ocean and less than 2km to the north is the sheltered bay of Clovelly, well-known as a good snorkelling location. Inland about 2km to the west you'll find Randwick, where you can check out the latest films in the Art Deco grandeur of heritage-listed Ritz Cinema, and less than 5km away to the south, is Maroubra.

  • Gordon's Bay, Coogee

Coogee is the quintessential suburban Aussie beach, but there’s even more to explore nearby, as it sits between the sheltered bays of Clovelly Beach and Gordons Bay to the north, and surfing and swimming favourite Maroubra to the south.

  • Coastal walk, Bondi

The famous Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk is a classic and beautiful route that winds along the headlands and beaches of Sydney’s eastern suburbs. But there’s also more to explore; this walk continues down to Maroubra, Lurline Bay, Malabar and the wetlands
